Health and Safety Manager - Principal Contractor

£70,000 - £73,000 plus package

A leading main contractor is looking to appoint a Health and Safety Manager to support projects across the Southeast of England.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional who can work autonomously, manage their own workload effectively, and provide credible support across a live construction environment. The position offers a good level of flexibility and would suit someone confident operating independently while building strong relationships with site and operational teams.

The role You will be responsible for driving health and safety standards across multiple construction projects, working closely with operational teams to promote compliance, improve performance, and support a positive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead on health and safety across a range of construction projects
• Provide practical advice and guidance to site teams and operational management
• Carry out site inspections, audits and monitoring visits
• Support incident investigations and ensure actions are followed through
• Help drive compliance, continuous improvement and behavioural safety standards
• Review risk controls and support the implementation of safe working practices
• Build strong working relationships while maintaining the confidence to challenge where needed

Requirements

• Proven experience in a health and safety role within construction
• Able to work independently and self-manage effectively
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at site and management level
• Comfortable working across multiple locations
• NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
• Working at height experience would be an advantage

Package

• £70,000 - £73,000 salary
